Blog post #5 - due Wednesday, March 23

Dear students,

Welcome to the continuation of our class blog from Spring I. Note that I have re-named it for your current levels, but it is still the same blog.

Our topic for this week will be "Eating Out in NYC." Please answer the following questions, preferably in paragraph form. As before, please react to at least one of your classmates.

1. What kind of food do you want to eat when you go out: food from your native country, or some other kind? 2. What is your favorite restaurant in NYC? Why?  3. Where is it located?  4. How are the prices there? 5. Would you recommend it to your classmates? to your teacher? I am always looking for new restaurants to try!

Happy blogging,
Diana

  1.  1,When I eating out, I prefer eat the food that unable to make at home. I like to try the new things that from different countries. When I go out and eat Chinese dish, I usually order some complex dishes or somethings that I can't make at home. I also like try something special. I find the special restaurant or stores by the recommend of netizens. For example, I drove to Brooklyn to buy some rainbow bagels half mouth ago. The bagels looks pretty cool and special enough, but sometimes the special not equal to deliciousness. But it still is a good experience for me. :)
2, Three restaurants I think are good is BCD Tofu House, Yakiniku West, and Peter Luger Steak House. BCD is a Korean restaurant, I like the cold noodle and spicy raw crab that they made. Yakiniku West is a great Japanese BBQ restaurant. Peter Luger Steak House is a famous steakhouse, they make great bacon and steaks.
3, BCD Tofu House is located at 5W 35th St, Midtown West, Manhattan. Yakiniku West is located at 218 E 9th St, Manhattan. It is very close with our school. But it only open at 5pm to 11:30pm. Peter Luger Steak House is located at 178 Broadway, Brooklyn.
4, BCD is cost-effective, you can spend little money to eat lots of things, the prelude of meals always ups me appetite. Yakiniku West is more expensive than BCD, but the quality of the meats and vegetables are worth the price. Peter also is expensive, but you can enjoy juice and tasty meats.
5, Of course! I suggest you to try it if you have chance. I think it will not let you disappointment.

    1. When I eat out, I like going for Nigerian food in Nigerian restaurants. This for me is because, I am living with Americans in Queens and I am used to eating American food with them. Hence, what gives variety to me here in NYC is Nigerian food in Nigerian restaurants.

    2. My favorite restaurant is BUKA New York. They have very delicious Nigerian native food, prepared as exactly as you will have it in Nigeria.

    3. The restaurant is located at Clinton Hill, 946 Fulton Street, Brooklyn.

    4. In reality, they are expensive. The only truth is that, you may not mind since it is not a place one goes very regularly.

    5. I will be so glad to recommend it to my classmates and my teacher. It will make me happy to see them try to eat my native food.

    REACTION TO PIAOYAN'S WORK

I like what Piaoyan said about eating out on the food she cannot prepare.

She also touched me when she talks about eating food from other countries.

That is actually the joy of multicultural sense of living in NYC.

In my own case, I am already getting to the American food with the priests

    I am living with.

  4. Since I live with a homestay and I usually eat dinner with them, I really miss my own Arabic food. There are a lot of different types of arabic food and that's why I always keep looking for Arabic restaurants. In addition, I love Indian, and Chinese food. When ever I miss Arabic food, I go to restaurant which is cool Yemeni Cafe. Their dishes are similar to what I used to eat in my country; I go there once a while, and also because they have a drink that I used to drink everyday; it is called Ayran. I can describe it as a salty light milk. It makes you feel good especially in summer because we drink it as a cold drink. It I s located in Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. The prices are good. Not expensive, not cheap. I really do recommend it to my teacher and classmates if they want to try Arabic food.

  5. 1. when I eating out, which kind of restaurant I choose depend on who I go out with. When I go out with classmate who comes from different country, I prefer to choose Chinese food. Sometimes I go out with my sister, we usually choose Korean food, because we both are love Korean food. 2. I love a Chinese restaurant named Cafe China. It is really a good Chinese restaurant. The decoration of restaurant I love so much. It looks like old Shanghai style on 1970s. Moreover, you can see any dishes and balls are also Chinese style. However, you will find the food there much better than their decoration. 3. Cafe China located on 37th street and between 5th Ave and Madison Ave. Manhattan. 4. The price is pretty good for me, I think it not hight. 5. I really recommend it to my classmates and teachers. It's really a good place to try good Chinese food.

  6. Dear students,

Thank you for your very enthusiastic participation in the "Eating Out" blog. Of the restaurants you mention, I have only been to Peter Luger Steak House, recommended by Piaoyan, and Semsom, recommended by Enas. I went once to the latter for lunch with Sue Peterson, but didn't remember the name of it. Both were good. I also like food of various nationalities, especially French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Mexican. I like Chinese food too, but the closest Chinese restaurant to us, China Fun, is not very good, in my opinion. Many others are better. One thing is for sure: there is no shortage of excellent restaurants in New York, from every country and in every price range.

    Happy long weekend to all!
    Diana
